And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord...
Luke 1:46 is the first verse of what is known as Mary's Magnificat, the song of praise in which Mary glorifies God for granting her the blessing of being the mother of the Messiah. Here, in one of the darkest times in Israel's history, Mary has reason to sing praise to God. The fact that the Jewish people are under Roman bondage, the fact that she is poor, the fact that she lives in a small, obscure village....None of this bothers her. She is going to be the mother of God's Son! In Luke 1:49 Mary says, "For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name." Deeply moved and extremely excited, she proclaims these words with all her soul. Today I hope you are moved to the point that you, too can say "my soul doth magnify the Lord." Pastor John

Luke 1:37
The first chapter of Luke is full of miracles. God had been silent for over 400 years before the events Luke describes. Now, all of the sudden, God dispatches the Archangel Gabriel to herald the amazing news to Zacharias, Elizabeth and Mary concerning the births of their sons. God is miraculously at work again! This time He is bringing the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies. We are at the threshold of a New Testament and the Messiah is coming to bring salvation to the world. Think about the impossible things that become possible at the beginning of God's new dispensation! In Luke 1 alone, a barren couple, stricken in years, is having a baby! A Virgin conceives by the power of the Holy Spirit, and the Son of God will soon be born! The good news of the Gospel is coming to light up a dark world! The words of Luke 1:37 are from Gabriel, who has been in the very throne room of God and knows the truth of all that God can do. They are still a comfort to all who know Christ...God makes the impossible possible! Pastor John

Luke 1:4
...to reassure you of the truth of all you were taught.
In this passage Luke, the blessed physician, addresses a friend about the life and gospel of Jesus. His purpose is to express all he can to make sure that Theophilus, his addressee, is informed and knows the truth. Theophilus is obviously a good friend of Luke's. His name literally means "a friend who loves God." Luke most likely gathered much of his information from Matthew and Mark's writings. He had never traveled with Jesus but was knowledgeable of the gospel and wated to accentuate every truth he could gather. The Gospel of Luke is a perfect example of how God moves upon people to do great things for His kingdom. Luke's literary works (his gospel and the Book of Acts) comprise one quarter of the New Testament. He was good friends with Paul who wrote more books of the bible than any other writer. Luke, however, wrote more volume...and it's interesting to note that Luke is the only non-Jewish Biblical author.

Psalm 107:9
For He satisfies the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul with goodness.
Here in the Thanksgiving Season, our main focus is on food for our bodies. Surely we want to be thankful for nourishment and God's provision of physical things we need. Here in Psalm 107 the psalmist is thankful for the spiritual nourishment that comes to the longing soul. I sincerely hope you all had a great thanksgiving celebration with your families and friends. I hope you expressed your thanksgiving to God for all His goodness, physically and spiritually. We are officially in the 2012 Holiday Season. Let's keep Christ the center of all our celebrations as we anticipate greater things for the new year ahead. Pastor John

Revalation 21:1
And I saw a new heaven and and new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away, and there was no more sea.
Are you really thankful for all that God has done for you in your life? In this scripture from Revelation it appears that God will one day outdo anything He's done for us in the past. It's hard to imagine a "new heaven" when you haven't yet seen the "old heaven." And what was wrong with the
"old heaven" anyway? Maybe it's just not going to be big enough by the end of the millennium. Maybe God wants to make some home improvements. After all, He will be bringing His Son's new bride home, and we all know how brides can be. Maybe He's building a "new heaven" just because He can. From what I've read in God's word, and from the blessings He's already brought me, I certainly don't want to miss this one. When we give thanks to God, we need to probably place our focus on what God's done in our past. However, don't forget what He's promised to give us in the future - a brand new heaven. It's for real! Psalm 23:5
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
David found favor with God and was provided for even when his enemies sought to destroy him and steal his most cherished possessions. He was not intimidated by his enemies, even when they were nearby. Perhaps David knew the adage about keeping his friends close, but his enemies closer. At the moment when David penned Psalm 23, his fiercest enemy was his own king, Saul. Yet his best friend was Saul's son, Jonathan, who was to be the successor to the throne. God clearly had a greater purpose for David. David loved his king, but that love was not mutaul because of Saul's jealousy and greed. David's testimony was that God was always close, no matter what trials he faced. Even when David forsook the Lord later in his life, God never pulled His will from him. From this I see God's unconditional love for those who are not intimidated by Satan's evil ploys. Pastor John

Psalms 91:15-16
He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.
Many folks today are restless, seeking answers to life's problems and circumstances beyond their control. All too often their sources for assistance prove to be useless, leaving them unsatisfied or unpleased with the results. The arm of flesh will fail us time and again. The Lord alone has the answers to all of life's challenges, problems and cares. Our help truly comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth. We need to call upon the Lord, and He will bring about the much -needed results. All things are possible with Him, but we must believe and trust Him. No one understands us like Jesus, and no One is nearer to us than Him. Just cast every care upon the Lord, because He cares for you. Pastor John

Romans 11:36
For everything comes from God alone. Everything lives by His power, and everything is for His glory. To Him be glory evermore.
In this verse, the Apostle Paul really answers the question many people ask: Why am I here? As Rick Warren, author of The Purpose Driven Life, says, "It's all for Him." The ultimate reason that mankind is here - the reason this universe exists - is to give glory to God. We live as a direct result of God's power. Outside of God, there is nothing. If you're wrestling with the question of why you are here, purpose to give God your worship and service by reading His Word and praying earnestly. As you do this, He will reveal the meaning of your life. He will guide you to where your life will bring Him the most glory and where you will be the most blessed. Pastor John

2 Timothy 3:16
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.
One cannot read the Bible, attend church regularly or hear the teaching of the Gospel without asking some questions. Asking questions does not make someone a doubter. It signifies that the person is seeking more knowledge about what he has read or heard. When we hear a phenomenal statement, many times our response is, "Really?" We respond this way because we want to know what is "for real". This fall we will look at some pertinent theological questions and we will see what the Bible says to answer them. We'll seek real answers for real questions. Pastor John

1 Timothy 4:12
Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in love, in faith, and in purity.
In this verse the Apostle Paul encourages young Timothy, telling him that age is no factor when ministy is your calling. Really, Paul is telling Timothy what every Christian must do, whether in ministry or laity. How we speak, how we live, the love we have for others, our faith in God and the purity of our actions should set a Christ-like example. Our children, youth, and young adults form the backbone of our ministry here at Harbor Life. I thank God for their talent, their calling, and their Christ-like example. Whether on stage, in a classroom or behind the scenes, our young people are a valuable blessing to us. Pastor John

Luke 11:13
If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly father give the holy spirit to them that ask him.
As we pray we must consider that we are children talking to our Father - and Father know best. If we pray for good things unselfishly, God will provide things that are often better than we'd imagined originally. And, as Luke 11:13 suggests, what could be better than the Holy Spirit? We see this truth again in James 5:16 when the apostle reminds us that "the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." God's "much" is far greater than what you could ask of Him. And, what could be greater than being filled with the Holy Spirit? I believe using that Holy Spirit power to bring lost souls to Christ would be greater. Keep praying for a life-changing revival and we will reap the harvest God has before us. Pastor John

Mark 11:17
....is it not written, my house shall be called of all nations THE HOUSE OF PRAYER?.....
Jesus was driving the moneychangers from the Temple when he asked this question. The religious leaders were using the Temple as a place for corrupt personal gain - stealing from the devout. Jesus referenced Isaiah 56:7 as he overturned the tables: "for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people." The church is to be foremost a house of prayer. Prayer should be first on every church agenda. It is through prayer that we make the biggest difference in the world. It is through prayer that we see healings, salvations and revivals. It is through prayer that God moves, changing the spiritual climate of our communities. For us to really be a life-giving church, we must first be that house of prayer. Each member of the Body should pray faithfully every day. When we do this, we will see new life springing up not only in the church, but in the world around us. Pastor John

Hebrews 10:23
Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering: (for He is faithful that promised).
The added parenthetical note in this verse is the reason prayer is so powerful and reassuring. Perhaps we could rephrase this scripture this way: Because the God who promised is faithful, we can hold fast to the profession of our faith. We can be unmovable as a result of our prayers and trust in the Lord. He has never lied. He has never gone back on His word. He has never failed us. He has answsered our prayers and provides for us beyond our expectations. Our own faithfulness and promises cannot compare to the ever-abiding faithfulness of our God. During these 40 days of prayer and fasting be mindful that 40 days do not compare to the lifetime of blessings and eternal hope we have in Jesus. Let us not waver as we pray for revival and God's favor in all that we do to glorify Him.

1 Corinthians15:58
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.
Have you ever noticed that most of Jesus' parables deal with work (labor)? The parable of the sower. The faithful servant with his talents. The parable of the builders. The story of the wheat and the tares. It's evident that Jesus loves the faithful who are diligent in their work. In Proverbs 10:16 Solomon says, "The labour of the righteous tendeth to life: the fruit of the wicked to sin." God honors hard work, especially hard work done for His kingdom. Let us be thankful for jobs, careers, and the means to provide for those whom we love, for these things are blessings from God. If you need employment keep the faith and that faith will be rewarded. When we are faithful in all that we do, we are a blessing to God. Pastor John

Psalms 68:19
Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our Salvation, Selah.
The Lord truly pours His benefits upon us each day. His greatest benefit to us is Jesus Christ who is ever interceding on our behalf. We have seen God's benefits at Harbor Life Church for 32 years. Whenever some doors closed, other doors opened as we have sought to do God's will. In the 20 years of our pastorate God has been great to Sharon and me by way of the people of our congregation. My purpose today is to pursue God in a greater way than ever before. I believe Harbor Life's greatest years still lay ahead. God never ceases to bless. Thank you all for your support and service to the Kingdom. Sharon and I feel blessed in more ways than can be explained to have you as our church family. I boast of you often. Let's continue to do greater works until we all arrive in Heaven! Pastor John.

Psalm 42:1-2
As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: When shall I come and appear before God?
Like David, are you thirsty for God? have you ever been so thirsty that you felt faint? Communicating with God through prayer is like that cool refreshing drink that quenches your thirst, strengthening you. By way of that communication, God not only quenches our thirst for Him, but He meets our needs and provides greater blessings than just something refreshing to drink. I pray that you will be faithful in prayer during our 40 Days o Prayer and Fasting in preparation for revival. God bless you for your participation.

1 Thessalonians 5:17
Do not pray for easy lives. Pray to be stronger men. Do not pray for tasks equal to your powers. Pray for power equal to your tasks. Then the doing of your work shall be no miracle, but you shall be the miracle. Phillip Brooks Pray without ceasing.
Prayer is the main artery from us to God. It's our lifeline to Heaven. If you sever an artery, you will die without quick attention and repair. This is why we are encouraged to pray without ceasing. God Bless you! Pastor John

Matthew 24:14
And this Gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations: And then shal the end come.
In this verse Jesus speaks of events that will precede the end times. The preaching of the Gospel to every nation will somehow be fulfilled before He comes back to gather His Bride. Today we honor all missionaries who take on that challenge and sacrifice to go to the uttermost parts of the world as well as here at home. We are especially thankful for the ministries present with us in our service today. They are making a difference in this world. Let us be faithful to support them with our offerings and prayers. Ask God what He would have to give or do to help these wonderful ministries reach the world for Christ. Pastor John

Philippians 2:2
Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.
The apostle Paul longed for the church at Philippi to be in harmony and unity. As the previous verse mentions, this would bring consolation, comfort, love, fellowship and mercies. Paul said it would fulfill his joy. We learn from Acts 2 that prayer in unity reaps a great benefit for the church. In Psalm 133 we are told that where God's people dwell in unity, God commands His blessings. Let us be diligent in our prayers for the upcoming September revival. This diligence, coupled with unity, will bring a great harvest for our church and God's kingdom. Pastor John

Job 19:25
For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that He shall stand at the latter day upon the earth.
Job is at his all-time low when he says these words; yet, nothing can sway his faith as to who God is and what he can do. Job is like a rock and will not waver in his faith. "I know that my redeemer liveth" is a testimony of God's love even though Job seems far from it at the moment. He continues to be unshakeable. Job will be rewarded after this terrible season of testing, and he'll rise above the grief, pain, torment and loss. I wonder if I can be as faithful as Job. Can You? We really can't know the answer until we experience similar trials. One thing I do know, however, is that my Redeemer - Jesus Christ -- is alive, and as Job stated, He still stands in this latter day! Pastor John

Luke 3:16
I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: He shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire...
These are the words of John the Baptist. He was the baptizer with water. We know him as the forerunner of Christ. He heralded the words of Isaiah 40:3, Prepare ye the way of the Lord... Just as John's New Testament prophecy heralded the coming of Christ, his baptizing with water heralded the later baptism of the Holy Ghost. Jesus Himself was baptized by John. Water baptism is one's personal testimony of his or her cleansing from sin by the blood of Jesus Christ. It means that person is dead to their old nature and has risen to newness of life in Christ. Acts 1:5
For John truly baptized with water but ye shall be baptised with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.
Back in John 14:16 Jesus told His disciples, "I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you forever." At that point in the disciples' lives they had no idea as to the magnitude of this great promise. Here in Acts 1, Jesus gives the disciples the Great commission. It is interesting that as Jesus commissions His disciples to go into the world and be His witnesses, He simultaneously finishes His work of proof and preparation by filling them with His great promise - the Holy Spirit. After this, the disciples (now apostles) are never the same. They Holy Spirit baptism is always a life-changing event for those who receive Him. Before His ascension Jesus' commands had been to come and to follow. After He ascends and Pentecost comes, His command becomes to go. The Holy Spirit gave the apostles the finishing touch in preparation for them to go and establish the Church - the Bride of Christ.

Acts 2:43
And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.
I still believe that God performs wonders and signs through His people. Glod hasn't changed. His power hasn't diminished. Today He is still giving opportunity to all of His children. When His people humbly come before Him, and pray, and seek His face, and repent of their sins, then God will hear them, forgive them and bring healing to all of life's pains. We will then be living testimonies of His greatness to others who need the fear of the Lord. We will then see wonders and signs. Pastor John

Acts 2:1
And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. Acts 2:1
Ten days before the Day of Pentecost, the Disciples were instructed by Jesus to wait in Jerusalem for the Promise of the Father (Acts 1:4). On Pentecost, their wait is over. The promise of the Holy Spirit baptism is fulfilled. I've always been amazed by the immediate change that comes over Peter and the others. This change brings power, knowledge, anointing and boldness to these once simple, ordinary men. They become world-changers and difference-makers. The outpouring experience is something they'd never witnessed before. What a day Pentecost turns out to be! God, with perfect timing, rains down His Sprit while people from all over the known word are in Jerusalem to commemorate the occasion when God gave His law at Sinai. Now they witness God giving His Spirit to the Church. As it turns out, Pentecost will be a life-changing day for 3,000 others as well. My prayer is for a Holy Spirit outpouring today like the one those in the upper room experienced then. Pastor John

John 21:12
Jesus said to them, "Come and have breakfast." None of the disciples dared ask him, "Who are you?" They knew it was the Lord.
Anyone who has been on an all-night fishing trip won't turn down an invitation to a free breakfast...Isn't this so like Jesus? He prepares food for the hungry disciples after another amazing miracle - a great catch of big fish. With all that Jesus still had to teach His followers, He finds time to fellowship with them. In John 21 Jesus displays a motherly type of love to bless these men. I remember my mother, aunts, and grandmother cooking up fresh fish, hushpuppies, grits and more for my dad, grandfather, uncles, cousins and me when we'd get back in the middle of the night after mullet fishing. I was just a kid, but those times are still vivid in my memory. I realize now that we guys often took advantage of their middle of the night sacrifices. Looking back, I see that my male relatives and I were blessed to have so many wonderful moms in our family. Moments like these are just some of the reasons moms are so special. May God bless our moms! Pastor John

John 20:19
On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you!"
We know about the miracles Jesus performed and the power over Satan that He demonstrated in front of His disciples. Having this knowledge, it's easy to be critical of the disciples. Here they are hiding in fear. They are afraid the religious leaders or the Romans will arrest them or even crucify them. They may even be doubtful of the news that Jesus is risen. Yet, Jesus seeks them out because He loved them and understands their emotional strain. Twice in John 20 He tells them "Peace be with you." Doubt leads to fear, and fear leads to hiding. Though these apostles are having a time of doubt and fear, in just a few weeks they will be changed. They will become bold. They will become mighty men of God! Jesus' presence inspires them and removes their doubt. They will come out of hiding and preach the good news that Jesus is King of Kings and Lord of Lords. They will plant the Church of Jesus Christ in the midst of the enemy's stronghold. They will give their lives for the "Living Truth" that delivered them from their fears. This same victory and peace is ours today. Do not fear. Do not hide. Jesus has not changed. Pastor John

Luke 24:32
And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures? Luke 24:32
These words were spoken by the disciples Jesus talked with on the road to Emmaus. Those two men had the privilege of hearing the incarnate Word explain the written Word - the Risen Christ revealed the truths of the Holy Scriptures. In doing this, Jesus gave them a great key to the understanding of scripture: He, Himself, is its subject and in Him the entire Book finds its unity. Jesus is the "Living Word" as John tells us in his gospel (1:14), "And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth." God's Word is still the key to knowledge, love and peace. I hope we all can say, like the disciples on the Emmaus Road, that His words still burn within our hearts. Pastor John

John 20:28 and 29
Thomas said to him, "My Lord and my God!" Jesus told him, "Because you have seen me, you have believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed." John 20:28,29
Our sense of sight is a wonderful gift from God, and one of our most essential senses. When we see something, we can tell that it is real. Faith, however, sees things that we cannot see with our eyes. Faith sees around corners and beyond the next hill. Having "eyes of faith" is even more essential than our physical vision. It seems in John 20 that Thomas is going through a rough stage of his life. He is, with good reason, shaken by the events he's experienced in the previous three days. What he's heard- but cannot see- causes his momentary lapse of faith. Jesus knows this and appears for Thomas's benefit, so he can see with his eyes. Still. Jesus commends people like us for beleiving in Him without seeing Him. Let's keep believing even though we cannot see Him! Believe He is God. Believe He is our Savior. Believe He is coming again. Pastor John

1 Timothy 4:12
Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. 1 Timothy 4:12
It's been said that a church with no youth is a church with no future. This is true, and that's why I praise God for our young people and their leaders. Our Youth Board is comprised of men and women who are visionaries, always planning exciting and relevant events for our youth. Let's support they with continued appreciation and encouragement. 2 Corinthians 5:21
God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God. 2 Cor 5:21
This is an amazing verse to me. It causes me to think beyond what the words are saying, and take what Jesus did for me very personally. He took my sins which were many, and He took them to my cross, where He died. The guilt, the shame, the trial, the verdict, the execution, all of this, He took. I should have been crucified, but Jesus was instead. This is true for everyone present at Harbor Life Church, (and everyone in the world, for that matter). I love Jesus for what He did for me, and that love brings me to this question: If my sins demanded God's Son, then what does God's righteousness demand of me? Thank God for His amazing grace and the Blood of Jesus - the workings of the greatest love ever. Pastor John

1 Corinthians 15:19
If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are all men most miserable. 1 Cor 15:19.
The old hymn states, "My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus' blood and righteousness; I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus' name." These lyrics are a testimony to the writer. To only hope in things of this world is fruitless. To hope in Christ is to have hope beyond our present existence. God blesses and keeps us in this life as we stand upon His Word. This is awesome, and I love how God works in my earthly life. Yet, the blessings here cannot compare to the blessings there. I thank God daily for the bright future we have with Him in the eternal Heaven. This world is but our stopping-off place. We can hope in Christ, for beyond this life we will one day be at home. Hebrews 10:23
Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; for He is faithful that promised. Hebrews 10:23.
I have this thought about faith: If we are going to profess it, we must possess it. This is what the author is saying in this verse. There are great rewards for clinging to and walking in our faith. God is faithful to make every promise in His Word a reality for us. Hebrews 11:6 tells us to follow God in faith for "He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him," but "without faith it is impossible to please Him." We please the Lord when we follow Him - especially when we don't know where He will lead us. Our Student Ministries are in the Not a Fan study now. As we encourage them to be followers of Christ and not just fans on the sidelines, we know that it takes courage to be true followers of Christ today. Let's hold to our faith and follow Christ, for His promises are ours to receive. Pastor John

Joshua 1:9
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord you God will be with you wherever you go.
God commands courage in this powerful verse from Joshua. God speaks this to Joshua as he turns the leadership of His people over to him. Moses, their previous leader, had been a man of courage and faith. Joshua knew that he, too, must possess those qualities and pass along God's message to the tribal leaders of Israel. Joshual was a true leader. His leadership proved that being courageous can be contagious. He received this courage when God told him "your God will be with you wherever you go." The people were inspiried by his courage, and they reclaimed the Promised Land. The message of Joshua 1:9 holds true for God's people today. As we purpose to do God's will, let us be courageous, knowing that He will be with us wherever and whenever we do His work. Pastor John

Psalms 27: 14
Don't be impatient. Wait for the Lord, and He will come and save you! Be brave, stouthearted and courageous. Yes Wait and He will help you.
David shows us in this verse that patience and courage are synonymous. God's Word often instructs us to be patient and see what He will do. We read of miraculous victories in the Old Testament when kings waited on God and He delivered them from ovewhelming odds. As we seek the will of God, we must be patient and courageous. Sometimes we might have to wield the Sword (His Word) like Jesus did in the wilderness. But it takes real courage to give everything to God and wait, with expectation, for Him to do something with it. In those waiting times we can take courage and know that He who is with us is far greater than the enemy who is against us. Pastor John

Ephesians 3:20 and 21A
Now unto Him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, unto Him be Glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end.... Ephesians 3:20 and 21A.
The Holy Spirit is what powers God's kingdom. All miracles and mighty works are the product of the Spirit. At Creation, God's Spirit moved, and everything - from the most distant stars to the molecules that make up our bodies - was fit into place. This was just the beginning of God's kingdom power. This same power resides in all God's born again people. This is the power that moved prophets and apostles to do great works and write God's word. This is the power that convicts us to repentance. This is the power that defeats adversaries and speaks peace to those in trouble. The baptism of this power grants us the ability to minister salvation to the world. God's kingdom power is still moving, doing wonders greater than we could imagine! The Holy Spirit is still looking for unified people through whom He can do even greater works today! We subjects of God's kingdom are recipients of this power! Pastor John

Acts 2:47b
....And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved. Acts 2:47b
The initial outpouring of the Holy Spirit in Acts 2 was a powerful event. The Spirit was not new to these disciples of Christ; they had already seen the Spirit work through Christ to do great miracles. However, never before had so many been baptized with this power at one time. God's kingdom power wrought much fruit as it was manifested on the Day of Pentecost. Three-thousand were added to His Chuch as a result! This was no one-shot deal. Acts 2:47 makes it clear that this was just the beginning, for the Lord was adding to the Church daily. By Acts 4:4, 5,000 more became believers. In a short time, the Church at Jerusalem grew to at least 8,120 believers. These are the examples God has given us to encourange the growth of His Church. Let's be aggressive in pursuing lost souls for God's Kingdom. Pastor John

John 15:13
Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
The greatest truths about the love of God are found in the Book of John. It really is no wonder that Jesus' first miracle was at a wedding. It's no wonder that His love was so greatly manifested to His disciples that, just by hearing Him say "Follow me," they left everything to be with Him. It's no wonder that the broken, the lost, and the poor flocked to see Him when He was moved by compassion to minister to them. Christ performed many wonders before the people, but His greatest wonder was dying for our sins. On the cross He proved the greatest love of all; however, His wonders were not finished. He conquered death, hell and the grave, giving all who love Him in return the greatest hope - resurrection power! Jesus dies for His kingdom, exemplifying the kind of love that we all should have. Matthew 6:33
But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Forty times in the Gospel of Matthew Jesus speaks of the Kingdom of Heaven, or the Kingdom of God. His kingdom is His first priority. Like every good king, his kingdom gets His full attention. Jesus describes His kingdom through His parables which speak of love, obedience, perserverance, faithfulness, honor, repentance, forgiveness, prayer, witnessing, discipleship and many more righteous subjects. He so longed for the kingdom that in the Lord's Prayer He prayed, "Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven." Jesus desires that we be kingdom people living by these kingdom principles. By seeking these principles first, all the blessings of Matthew 5 and 6 will be passed on to us. Re you a kingdom person? Are you living by His righteous principles? If so expect your life to be blessed! Pastor John

Luke 19:10
For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. Luke 19:10
Jesus speaks this scripture in Luke's account of the story of Zacchaeus. Zacchaeus is the chief among Publicans and very rich according to Luke. In this story, the people who hear Jesus speak to Zacchaeus complain that Jesus would have anything to do with such a sinner. Jesus then tells them that He has come to save such sinners. To Zacchaeus Jesus says, "This day is salvation come to your house." In this story I notice that Jesus never invites Zacchaeus to church. Instead He invites himself into his house to save him. Jesus' focus is on the lost man and his family's salvation, not whether he comes to church. Today we seem to have drifted toward the notion that the lost are unchurched more than they are unsaved. Jesus told the Publican that salvation had come to his house, not his church. We must be on a quest to see the lost saved....Church attendance will follow. Pastor John

Joel 2:15, 16A
Blow the trumpet in Zion, Sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly: Gather the people....
Joel's task was to call God's people to repentance. In these verses he is telling the people to get the word out, start an immediate fast and seek God for His forgiveness. He calls for all of the leaders and priests to unite in repentance. It's time for God's people today to do the same. There is great promise for the people who come together, unified in seeking God for forgiveness and the healing of their land. Joel 2:18 tells us, Then will the Lord be jealous for his land, and pity his people. Remember Psalm 133:3; this is where the Lord commands the blessing. We see the results of Judah's penitence in Joel 2:21. Fear not, O land; be glad and rejoice: for the LORD will do great things. Though this promise is 2,200 years old, God has not changed. He still hears the prayers of His people. Let us come together seeking Him penitently, and we will see His blessings. Pastor John

Romans 14:19
Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another. Romans 14:19
Following Jesus, the Prince of Peace, takes us along a pathway to find things which make for peace. Actually, Jesus told us in John 14 that He would give us peace - so we don't have to look far to find peace as we follow Christ. Peace is the route to unity. Peace with our brothers and sisters brings about edification, or improvement of the soul. This peace builds and fortifes our relationships as we follow our Lord together. Hebrews 12:14 tells us that we should follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord. Let us pursue peace and unity, building up the Body of Christ.

Psalms 133:1 and 3b
Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity...for there the Lord commandeth the blessing, even life for evermore. Psalms 133:1 3b
The Harbor Life Church theme word for 2012 is UNITY. God has a special place for those who seek to live in unity with others. I believe many people miss an important part of this scripture. About unity, verse 2 states it is like precious ointment and the dew of Mount Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion. Zion is the Holy Place of God on this earth for there the Lord commandeth the blessing, even life for evermore. Thusly, God commands blessing on His unifed body. This is why unity is so important. Remember that when the Holy Spirit was poured out at Pentecost, the people were in one accord. This is unity. The unified church is the Spirit-blessed church. It is the church that grows immediately and where miracles are commonplace! Pastor John

2 Corinthians10:4-5
For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds; Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringeth into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. 2 Cor 10:4-5
This is encouraging scripture as we face a New Year. We do not know everything that 2012 will hold for us. 2011 held many things that we did not expect - many were tragic anddevastating. However, these verses affirm the truth that God is still in control. Whatever strongholds the enemy may have planned for you this year, God can pull them down and cast away all things that would distract you as you walk with Christ. This is my prayer for you - to have a victorious New Year! Pastor John
