Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord you God will be with you wherever you go.
God commands courage in this powerful verse from Joshua. God speaks this to Joshua as he turns the leadership of His people over to him. Moses, their previous leader, had been a man of courage and faith. Joshua knew that he, too, must possess those qualities and pass along God's message to the tribal leaders of Israel. Joshual was a true leader. His leadership proved that being courageous can be contagious. He received this courage when God told him "your God will be with you wherever you go." The people were inspiried by his courage, and they reclaimed the Promised Land. The message of Joshua 1:9 holds true for God's people today. As we purpose to do God's will, let us be courageous, knowing that He will be with us wherever and whenever we do His work. Pastor John
