Romans 14:19

Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.  Romans 14:19

Following Jesus, the Prince of Peace, takes us along a pathway to find things which make for peace.  Actually, Jesus told us in John 14 that He would give us peace - so we don't have to look far to find peace as we follow Christ.  Peace is the route to unity.  Peace with our brothers and sisters brings about edification, or improvement of the soul.  This peace builds and fortifes our relationships as we follow our Lord together.  Hebrews 12:14 tells us that we should follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.  Let us pursue peace and unity, building up the Body of Christ.

Psalms 133:1 and 3b

Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity...for there the Lord commandeth the blessing, even life for evermore.  Psalms 133:1 3b

The Harbor Life Church theme word for 2012 is UNITY.  God has a special place for those who seek to live in unity with others.  I believe many people miss an important part of this scripture.  About unity, verse 2 states it is like precious ointment and the dew of Mount Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion.  Zion is the Holy Place of God on this earth for there the Lord commandeth the blessing, even life for evermore.  Thusly, God commands blessing on His unifed body.  This is why unity is so important.  Remember that when the Holy Spirit was poured out at Pentecost, the people were in one accord.  This is unity.  The unified church is the Spirit-blessed church.  It is the church that grows immediately and where miracles are commonplace!  Pastor John

2 Corinthians10:4-5

For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds; Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringeth into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.  2 Cor 10:4-5

This is encouraging scripture as we face a New Year.  We do not know everything that 2012 will hold for us.  2011 held many things that we did not expect - many were tragic anddevastating.  However, these verses affirm the truth that God is still in control.  Whatever strongholds the enemy may have  planned for you this year, God can pull them down and cast away all things that would distract you as you walk with Christ.  This is my prayer for you - to have a victorious New Year!  Pastor John
